as a neurodivergent artist with complex PTSD, knives taylor uses his experiences of depersonalization and derealization to inform his work: using photography that often borders on the surreal while maintaining a toe in reality.
knives tries to blur the line between photography and painting, with layered compositions and pixel mining to reinterpret multiple memories into a single point: a makeshift Rorschach test.
growing up deep in the woods of the Ozark mountains and small-town Missouri, quiet observation of the mundane and innocuous was a key component to his upbringing.
his work continuously focuses on prioritizing form, opposing colors, and saturation over the objects themselves to make a piece completely new, often reinterpreting the interaction between man-made structures & nature.
leaning into elements of photography that were once deemed mistakes such as multi-exposure and noise (i.e. Brian Eno’s ugliness theory), he invites the onlooker to experience his art into something meaningful to them.
currently residing in Albuquerque, knives taylor is a self-taught but a life long lover of art in all forms. galleries were a gateway to experience a world that didn’t interact with the county roads he lived on. therefore, he is an amalgamation of all the art witnessed across the country. nevertheless, knives is inspired by hyperpop, the bucolic, and indigenous art.
